Notice Regarding Citizenship Information Sharing with HUD and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
This notice is to inform applicants and residents, of federally assisted housing programs, about the requirements for sharing citizenship information with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the subsequent sharing of certain information by HUD with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Please note that the Housing Commission of Anne Arundel County (HCAAC) does not directly share information with DHS.
Information Required to be Shared with HUD:
As part of the eligibility, redetermination and verification process for federally assisted housing programs, housing authorities are required to provide information about the citizenship or eligible immigration status of all household members. This information typically includes:

For U.S. Citizens: Documentation such as a birth certificate, U.S. passport, or other acceptable proof of citizenship, Social Security numbers, income and employment details, address and rent amount.

For Non-Citizens: Documentation demonstrating eligible immigration status as defined by HUD regulations. This may include Permanent Resident Cards, Employment Authorization Documents, Social Security numbers, alien registration numbers, income and employment details, address and rent amount.

Automated Immigration Status Verification: Primary verification of immigration status for each potential non-citizen as conducted through the INS automated system (INS Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE)).The INS SAVE system provides access to names, file numbers and admission numbers of noncitizens.
Providing accurate and complete citizenship or eligible immigration status information is mandatory for participation in federally assisted housing programs. Failure to provide this information or providing false information may result in ineligibility or termination of assistance.
Information HUD is Required to Share with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS):
HUD is required to provide DHS with certain information regarding all individuals receiving housing assistance and anyone who has declared having eligible immigration status. This information may include:

Date of Birth

Alien Registration Number or other immigration document number

Other identifying information provided to HUD related to immigration status.
